Howzit everyone? Sorry it's been so long since last entry, I've been out busting my okole looking for work.
Still don't have one but will in the near future, I have an interview tomorrow and some other leads.
It's way more competitive here than it is at home! I got my last job in Fort Worth
by going on craigslist, seeing ad for server at the Ashton Hotel, going in to fill out an application the next day, interviewing with the food and beverage manager and then being offered a job on the spot.
Things aren't quite so easy here.
I see an ad, go the next day, and boom there are twenty people already there filling out applications for the same job.
Also the interview process takes longer, most restaurants here require three, and they're serious about checking references.
I've replied to well over a hundred ads by sending my resume and gotten two yes two call backs; one from Arthur Murray dance studio and the other from a staffing agency.
Yes I applied to be a dance instructor, it said no experience required and they'd train so why not?
Sounds like it could be fun.
I went to a Super Bowl party over the weekend at a friend's house. A bunch of Navy guys live there with one local surfer. The house is huge and right on the ocean. The Navy guys here have a good thing going.
They get over 1,000 dollar housing allowance on top of their salary. Also, they're stationed in Hawaii....
It looks like the Navy pays more than it used to. My dad was stationed in Honolulu while in the Navy but I'm pretty sure he didn't live in a place like this.

The house is in Hawaii Kai which is like a residential suburb of Honolulu. Right down the street from this house
lives Duane "Dog" Chapman of 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' fame and his family.
I've been watching episodes on the show on Netflix because it makes a lot more sense when you live here and recognize the areas they go to and words they use.
At the party I actually met one of Dog's daughters. I'm not going to specify which one but she was very friendly. She introduced herself to me and I didn't recognize her but as we talked I started to think how familiar she looked then figured it out. Eventually she told me who she was anyway. It was weird because hours earlier I was at home watching the show and saw her running around as a little girl, now I'm having a beer with her. Very nice girl. I want to meet the whole family now.
Anyway, that's what's been going on with me. My next entry will cover Hawaiian cuisine. Mahalo for reading.
